BACKGROUND

Miyoki !Miyoki Kiko was born in the small village of Yedo, near Osaka, in 16th Century Japan. Her father, Hiro Suko Todo (or Todo Hirosuko, as it would be called in more modern Japanese), was a famous Samurai warrior, and her mother a Geisha who married her father more out of gratitude than love, when he saved her brother's life in battle with the Samurai of Lord Tokirobuko. Miyoki's mother was young, only 16, when she and Hiro Suko were married; but she was strong. She gave birth to seven children.... all boys...except for the youngest: Miyoki Kiko.

It was in bringing Hiro Suko's daughter into the world, however, that cost Miyoki's mother her life. She died in childbirth. In a way, this fact has always haunted Miyoki; and it has driven her to strive to be the best person she can be to justify the sacrifice her mother made to give her life. After her mother's death, her father moved from Yedo, where he was governor under Lord Omisaka of Anjiro; and went to Anjiro castle to serve in Omisaka's elite guard.

It was a given that all of Hiro's sons were trained as Samurai, and they all grew to become powerful warriors in the Bushido tradition. But, when Miyoki was 3, Hiro and his oldest son, Taiko broke with tradition and began training Miyoki in the ways of the honourable Japanese warriors. First they taught her the hand-to-hand arts, and by age 11 she was an expert, rivalling even Lord Yuki, son of Omisaka, in the Karate and Japanese martial arts. Her skills in Judo were so exceptional that she competed in tournaments across feudal Japan; often facing opponents twice her age, or size.... grown men on some occasions, and beating them with ease.

By the time she was eight years old, Hiro had begun teaching her the art of the Katana. He even crafted her a sword of her own, with deep lavender decorations on the hilt. Miyoki was a good student, and a fast learner, and by age 15 she was a virtual expert of the Katana, even compared to her father's own considerable skill. During her last training exercise, her father turned to her brother, and, watching her sparring remarked "The Buddha has blessed me that she is my daughter, and not my enemy, as I would not live to see another day !"Jungle Beauty

For another year, Miyoki Kiko stayed home, contented with her role as a servant around her father's house; cordially greeting and serving his or lord Omisaka's guests. During this time, Hiro Suko was promoted to Captain of Omisaka's guard, and the Lord of Anjiro often called on the family, and often brought powerful and influential "company". But Miyoki, now a fully trained Samurai was growing tired of being the elevated geisha in her father's home, and she had a desire to see what lay beyond the gates of Anjiro. Late one night, a week after her 16th birthday, Miyoki took her Katana, and climbed the wall of the city, disappearing in the woods that surrounded the city to the east.

She travelled throughout Japan, and some of the coastal areas of the mainland for 6 years, selling her sword, and her skills to the highest bidder as a Ronin, or Masterless Samurai. It was during these years that she learned the full skills of her trade, cooking, hunting, treating war wounds; crafting weapons, and armour, and archery. She also advanced her skills in the martial arts by studying in China while serving under a Chinese Warlord called Yu Qou.

At the age of 20 she returned to Japan. For a time she could not find work as a Ronin, and turned to prostitution to support herself, still not wanting to return home, and face her father. She knew he would be angry, yet deep inside she felt he would also have been proud, if he could have seen how well she had used the skills he had taught her.

Hmmmmm.......After working for two years as a prostitute, and geisha dancer, ironically performing many of the services she had performed in her father's home, and then some; she decided to return to Anjiro. Lord Omisaka was again at war with the ageing Lord Tokirobuko and his ally, Lord Hayatsubo, who had at one time been governor of Yedo.... where Miyoki was born. She wanted to prove herself worthy of the title of Samurai, and earn the right to wear the swords at her father's side, and not as a Ronin.

On her journey back to Anjiro, Miyoki was captured by the Ninja under Lord Hayatsubo. She was taken to a dungeon, and held captive for three months. During that time she was raped and tormented by the guards. Hayatsubo knew who she was... the daughter of Lord Omisaka's new Major Domo, Lord Hiro Suko Todo. He wanted to force her to give up her loyalty to her father, and join his Samurai, for the sake of Hiro's humiliation.

But Miyoki was strong, in body and mind, and was no stranger to the "ways of the world". She held on, knowing that somehow she would be free... it was Karma !

After three months, Miyoki was taken with other prisoners, and chained for moving. Lord Tokirobuko had taken Anjiro, but he had died in the battle. Now all his lands and holdings fell to Hayatsubo, his partner. And he was moving all and sundry to the castle in Anjiro: once Miyoki's home. During the march to Anjiro, Hayatsubo's Samurai were attacked by a party from Osaka, now the headquarters of Lord Omisaka. The party was lead by Hiro Taiko, Miyoki's brother. In the ensuing battle, Miyoki managed to free herself and take a Katana from one of the guards. Unleashing all her rage from her torment, she literally slaughtered Hayatsubo's troops, turning the tide of the battle, and saving her brother's life. In shock, and overjoyed, Hiro Taiko was reunited with his sister.Magnificent Miyoki

Miyoki was taken immediately before Omisaka, even before she was reunited with her father. The Lord of Osaka, after hearing who she was, and how she had fought, even killing the captain of Hayatsubo's guard; bestowed on her the full title of Samurai. She was quartered in Osaka castle, and didn't see her father until three nights later, at the ceremony where Omisaka presented her with her own Katana.

The reunion was warmer than Miyoki had expected. Her father had been following her career as a Ronin, and he couldn't have been more proud of his daughter. He wept when she told him about her treatment at the hands of Hayatsubo's Ninja. The only thing about her travels, and her experiences that Miyoki has to date, never told her father, or anyone is the time she spent as a prostitute before returning to Anjiro.

But Miyoki's past soon faded to memory and experience with her new-found position. She was a Samurai in the guard of her father, Lord Hiro Suko, Major Domo to Lord Omisaka; and there was war. Omisaka was fighting to regain control of Anjiro, and perhaps even go on to claim the Shogunate of Japan. Miyoki fought in several battles, being promoted to the command of a cavalry regiment. It was at this time that Qo-Wani Masen first appeared.

Though the "demon" was later exposed as a dangerous, and elaborate hoax by the traveller known as The Doctor; Miyoki's oldest brother was killed by Qo-Wani in his first appearance. The arrival of the so-called Qo-Wani Masen sparked the war anew, and Miyoki was thrown full force into the tense time that followed. With the arrival of The Doctor, and his fellow TimeLord, Mikanostinocolai, Miyoki found herself assisting the strange travellers to unravel the mystery of the self-proclaimed "War God". She witnessed "Qo-Wani" ' s destruction, and the death of Lord Omisaka.

Ready for AdventureAfter the Qo-Wani incident, which is documented elsewhere, Lord Hiro retired as a Major Domo. Omisaka's son, Yuki was now  Lord of Anjiro and Osaka, and on the fast track to the Shogunate. Yuki requested Miyoki to become captain of his guard, and his wife; but long ago, when travelling as a Ronin, Miyoki had sworn she would never become any man's wife, especially the wife of another Samurai. So Miyoki chose, again, to leave Anjiro, and her father.

This time she decided to go even farther than China. And she probably would never return. For she was going away with Mika, one of the strange "travellers" who had helped defeat Omisaka's enemies (and who had herself been named a Samurai). Miyoki wanted to see the world, and ended up seeing the universe; or at least a fair-sized chunk of it, from Ancient Rome on Earth, to distant planets filled with Daleks, and Cybermen.

Always with her Katana at the ready, Miyoki Kiko Hirosuko has become a permanent fixture at the side of the lovely Ecturian TimeLord, accompanying her through many an adventure through the dangerous pathways of time and space.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Samurai Lady !Miyoki Kiko is a warm and friendly girl, still young at 24, she still looks for the best in the world around her, and in the people she encounters. Though a trained and deadly warrior, she has learned from Mika, and The Doctor not to be so ready to kill. This fits in well with her pacifistic spirit, as she has seen a great deal of death in her young life, and often wishes she had never picked up a sword, let alone used one.

For the most part, Miyoki has put the harder parts of her life behind her. Her time as a prostitute has actually left her with some good memories in hindsight; and more than her share of jokes and quips to crack over the general vulgarity of men. Which is good because Miyoki has a very outgoing sense of humour, and is sometimes almost obnoxiously playful.

But in the thick of it, she can be down right deadly. Sometimes, while in combat, her memories of her horrors at the hands of the guards and the Ninjas come to the forefront and she can be openly brutal, and quick to anger. But Mika has taught her to control her temper, and her instincts, and for the most part, Miyoki does this.... though sometimes the TimeLord has to remind her.Battle Suit !

As a result of her travels with Mika, Miyoki, whom Mika often refers to as Kiko; has learned a lot more than she ever could have in feudal Japan. She's learned to speak English fairly well, and has become very comfortable with most of the domestic equipment in the TARDIS.  She has also taken to some unusually modern habits for a 16th century woman, no matter how worldly. The most obvious of these being her habit of commonly wearing no more than a small string bikini.

This habit is something Miyoki entered into, rather by accident, after spending time with Leela and The Doctor. Noticing how free and mobile Leela was in her primitive skins; Miyoki decided to dispense with her kimono and her leather armour, and go for a more mobility-promoting wardrobe. This was an especially useful change for Miyoki as she often, now, uses her skills with the Martial Arts rather than her swords to deal with enemies.

She seems nice :)After a visit, with Mika, to late 20th Century Earth, to Hawaii; Miyoki simply adapted what she mistakenly thought was a very common and normal daily attire that suited her purpose greatly. Like with several other attempts on Miyoki's part to "modernize" beyond her Bushido upbringing in feudal era Japan, this new wardrobe has brought a challenge at times to Mika's patience; as she has tried to explain to Miyoki why she hardly presents the appearance of a fearsome warrior in a low-cut french bikini, or a two piece leather suit that is hardly made for swimming in.

But Miyoki is a quick learner, whether of skills taught in her own time, or of customs and procedures she stumbles into in her travels through time and space. Mika fully believes that if and when the young Samurai decides to go her own way, she could more than easily handle a TARDIS.... with just a few more lessons.
